Happy HUMP (Wednesday) Day!!!

Good grief it is Wednesday already and it is almost over! It was much warmer out today, thank goodness. I took a trip to the Ski Hill with a friend of mine today so she could watch her grandson skiing for the first time. He is 10 yrs old. Kids amaze me, as they seem to pick up these skills so easily. Not me, well it may have helped if I had tried learning to ski when I was a kid but due to circumstances out of our control, it was not something that Mother could afford for us kids. We did learn to skate and had a blast on the toboggan hill. The first time I ever skied was when I had to be a chaperon for a bunch of 4-H kids and my Scott was one of them. Most of the kids were bad little buggers and kept us up all night running around the hotel. We chaperons had to go and remove all the phones from the kids rooms, tour the halls every hour and eventually slept with our door open all night so by the time we made it to the ski hill the next morning, we were cranky mothers. We got a 15 minute lesson and then the kids (40 of them) were allowed on the hills. I have never laughed so much or fallen so much in my entire life. Margie (another chaperon) and I learned to use the tow ropes the hard way, we learned how to get up after falling so often that the poor old legs did not want to get up one more time but by the end of the day we had mastered every run there was. Yes I ended up in a few snowbanks and almost took out several trees but I had a blast. When we arrived back in Russell that night at 9pm, I had time only to change and hit the bowling lanes as I was in a tournament and the first game started at 10pm. I was so tired i just let the ball fall where it wanted and I bowled the best games that i have ever bowled. I had a 325 that night and 2 other games over 200. I still have the score sheet somewhere and eventually we did win the A side of the tournament. My second ski adventure was with my son Ryan and we went to Ochapiway (not sure of the spelling) in Saskatchewan. Well Ryan took me on a black diamond, telling me it was easy and NO WAY was it easy. After I had fallen 3 or 4 times he left me way up there on the hill to get down on my own, actually I told him to bugger off cause he looked at me as if I was a big embarrassment..he was 15 and trying to impress some of the girls so I guess I was embarrassing him. I finally got down the hill with some help and did not venture up it again that day.

And if that was not enough Dennis and I decide to go skiing at Asessippi Ski Hill (actually Ryan gave me that for Christmas that year) and the first couple weeks went good and then the fateful day came when I made it almost to the bottom of the hill and was making my last turn to the lifts when I lost the edge of my ski and was falling so I sat down and my ski did not release....

big time injury. I refused to let them take me off the hill in the basket and insisted I sit on the skidoo and then would not let them call the ambulance because all my bosses were in Russell that night and they gave me the night off as I was writing advanced exams the next day. The poor patroller did not know what to do with me as I wanted an elastic bandage and they were not allowed to use them so I got Dennis to go to the car and get my trauma bag and I wrapped my own knee and went home in the car. The next morning I went to the hospital and was taken to Yorkton to see the surgeon and I had ruptured the medial ligament and totally tore the ACL clear off the bone on both sides. Needless to say I was in surgery the following morning. I stayed home a week and then went back to work crutches and all, I could not go on the ambulance but I was the supervisor at the time so worked in the office. I have not been on skis since but I sure wanted to today.....
